Graduation is a huge milestone. It's the end of one chapter but also the beginning of another. For years your life has been a routine– classes, sports, friends, late nights studying, memories being made every day– and now everything is starting to change. That can feel exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. There’s pressure to know what's next, pressure to succeed, and sometimes even fear of stepping into the unknown. But the biggest thing to know is you don't have to have it all figured out right now. Scripture that fits perfectly into these moments is Proverbs 3:5-6 and Proverbs 16:9. Proverbs 3:5-6 says– “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will set your paths straight.” Proverbs 16:9 says– A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” It's easy to want every answer before moving forward, but faith often means taking the next step before seeing the whole staircase. God rarely reveals his entire plan all at once. Instead, he guides us one step at a time teaching us to trust Him daily. Think about how far you’ve come. There were probably moments during high school when you felt stressed, uncertain, discouraged, or exhausted. Yet through every season God was still working in your life– shaping your character, teaching you perseverance, and preparing you for what's ahead. Graduation is not just about receiving a diploma. It represents growth. It represents lessons learned both inside and outside the classroom. You’re leaving this season stronger, wiser, and more experienced than when you started. Even the hard moments had purpose. As you move into this next chapter remember that your worth is not determined by a college acceptance, a job title, your income, or whether you have every detail of your life planned out. Your identity is found in God. Success in life is not only measured by accomplishments, but by the kind of person you become along the way. There will still be moments ahead where you feel uncertain. There may be doors that close and plans that change unexpectedly. But closed doors do not mean God has abandoned you. Sometimes redirection is protection. Sometimes delays are preparation. And sometimes the path you never planned for becomes the one that changes your life the most. Trust that God can use your gifts, your passions, your mistakes, and even your uncertainties for something meaningful. The story he is writing for your life is still unfolding, and this is only the beginning.
Let us pray. Lord, we thank you for this day and all your many blessings. We thank you for bringing us to graduation and for every lesson, challenge, and memory that led us here. As we step into this new season, help us to trust You with what’s ahead, even when we don’t have all the answers. We ask that you give us peace when we feel uncertain, courage when we feel afraid, and wisdom as we make decisions about our future. Remind us that our worth is not found in success or titles, but in being Your children. When plans change or doors close, we ask that you help us trust that You are still guiding us. Forgive us where we’ve failed you, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
