Franks question:

With all the layoff's & store closing's going on throughout the country, what can be done to help the situation? Also there is alot of confusion going on because there are alot of unemployed people that can't find a job & don't understand why or what's happening. What verse or verse's can be found to explain this?

 Frank

Dear Frank,

I acknowledge your concerns about the future. The place that I turn for truth is the Bible. To be sure Jesus knows exactly what is going on. Since Jesus sees with penetrating eyes and purified feet nothing is hidden. Closing stores and layoffs are no surprise.

Revelation 2:18 (NKJV)

18“And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass:

There is so much good going on in the church that people often miss what is producing peace and joy. The noise causes us a difficult time in seeing and hearing the truth. This is a foundational truth as to where confusion comes from (noise). We know God is not the author of confusion. (1 Corinthians 14:33)

Revelation 2:19 (NKJV)

19“I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first.

Sex outside of marriage was a problem in the day of our text. A woman named Jezebel promoted free sex and joining with the cultural practices of serving idols. Sex outside of marriage has never been permitted in the church and outside of the church for believers.

Revelation 2:20 (NKJV)

20Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.

God’s mercy is on display because He gave the false teacher an opportunity to repent. When she made the decision not to repent, she committed herself to the consequences.

Revelation 2:21–22 (NKJV)

21And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.

22Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds.

The practice of sex outside of marriage and the adultery with other gods is not up for discussion. It is a matter of black and white. The wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23)

Jesus Christ looks at the mind and the heart. He will render according to the works performed.

Revelation 2:23 (NKJV)

23I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

The good news is there are many who live a holy and pure life. God will see them through the difficult times.

Revelation 2:24 (NKJV)

24“Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden.

Frank, we are told to have courage and endure whatever comes so that we may honor the Lord Jesus. Jesus is coming. We are to hold to the faith even when evil is on display.

Revelation 2:25 (NKJV)

25But hold fast what you have till I come.

In the face of the closing of many stores and jobs appearing to be lost, you may ask if living the life for Jesus is worth it. With full confidence you can be assured it is. This is not the time to be discourage but to display courage.

Revelation 2:26–28 (NKJV)

26And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations—

27‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’— as I also have received from My Father; 28and I will give him the morning star.

So, Frank, as you pray this week, keep your spiritual ears open and help the church to make an impact on the society. Together, with work of the Holy Spirit, we can make a difference.

Revelation 2:29 (NKJV)

29“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’

Your Friend,

Robert
